Cookie Policy

This page explains what cookies are, how AskHole uses them, and the choices you have. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. They let a site remember things between pages and visits, like keeping you logged in. Some are needed for the site to work, others help us understand how the site is used. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, and we refer to them all as cookies here.

How we use cookies

AskHole uses cookies to keep you signed in, to keep your account secure, and to make the site work smoothly. Where we use anything beyond what is strictly necessary, such as analytics, we describe it below.

The cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These make core features work, like logging in and staying logged in, security, and forms. The site cannot function properly without them, so they cannot be switched off from here.

  • WordPress account cookies, which keep you logged in and your session secure while you use your account.
  • Ultimate Member cookies, which power account sign-up, login, and profiles.
  • AskHole flow cookies, short-lived cookies we set to run the site. These include a cookie set for up to an hour after you post a request or join as a Pro, so we can show you the right confirmation screen, and a small cookie that remembers where you were in the sign-in flow when you started posting.
  • A WordPress cookie-check cookie, used to confirm your browser accepts cookies at login.

Functional

These remember choices you make so the site is more convenient, such as remembering interface preferences. They are not used to track you across other sites.

Analytics

If analytics are enabled, these help us understand how people use AskHole so we can improve it, for example which pages are popular and where people get stuck. Analytics data is used in aggregate. The specific analytics provider and settings are listed here once confirmed: {{ANALYTICS_PROVIDER}}.

Third-party and embedded content

Some pages may include content from other services, such as embedded maps or video, or run behind a security and delivery network. These providers may set their own cookies when their content loads. We list any such providers here once confirmed: {{THIRD_PARTY_SERVICES}}.

How long cookies last

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay for a set period or until you delete them. Our short-lived flow cookies expire within about an hour. Login cookies last for the length of your session or until you log out, depending on whether you chose to be remembered.

Managing cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings, including blocking them or clearing ones already stored. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of AskHole from working, such as staying logged in. Your browser help pages explain how to manage cookies for your specific browser.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as AskHole changes or as we add new tools. When we do, we will update the date below. This policy was last updated on {{POLICY_LAST_UPDATED}}.
